Bony Ramirez

b. 1996, Tenares, Salcedo, DR.

Bony Ramirez is a Dominican artist whose work reflects his rich cultural heritage and personal experiences. Influenced by his upbringing in the Dominican Republic and early exposure to Catholic imagery, Ramirez creates distinctive, stylized figures. His art draws from diverse sources, including Italian Mannerism, Renaissance portraiture, and children's illustrations, blending them into a unique and recognizable style.

Ramirez’s unique technique involves creating these figures on paper and adhering them to wood panels featuring vibrant Caribbean backdrops. His work is further enriched with symbolic objects, ranging from playful elements like colorful beads to more jarring additions such as real knives, which introduce a sense of tension and contrast.

Ramirez's art has gained significant recognition, with exhibitions at prestigious venues including the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, the Newark Museum of Art, and Jeffrey Deitch in New York. In 2023, he was honored in the Forbes 30 Under 30 Arts & Style category, and his work is part of the permanent collections of renowned institutions such as the Institute of Contemporary Art Miami and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
