Julianny Ariza

Julianny Ariza Vólquez (1987, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic)
Dominican visual artist. Her recent work focuses on rethinking exclusionary models within Dominican material memory through sculptures, installations, paintings and videoart. Her most recent solo show was Amas de leche (2024) at Artpace San Antonio Texas, USA. She presented the video art piece “Those Three Tides” at the National Art Gallery Livingstone, Zambia (2024). In 2023, Julianny developed the project “Imaginaciones del mito,” commissioned by the Museum of Contemporary Art of Puerto Rico (MAC), and participated in the Black Barcelona Encounter in Spain. As an artist in residence, she has been at Konvent Art Residency, Spain (2023), Rockland Woods, USA (2023), at the Office for Contemporary Art Norway (2021-2022), at Künstlerhaus Schloss Balmoral, Germany (2013), and at AS220, USA (2012).

She attended the Escuela Nacional de Artes Visuales, D. R. (2008) and Altos de Chavon School of Design (2010). Ariza’s work is in the collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Puerto Rico, the Santo Domingo Museo de Arte Moderno and the Centro Leon Jimenes from D.R. Her work has been exhibited in MECA Mercado Caribe International Art Fair, D.R.; New York Latin American Art Triennial, U.S.; CUNY Dominican Studies Institute, U. S.; Centro Cultural de España, D. R.; Casa Quien, D. R.; and among others.
